When COVID19 Cancelled our Spring Plans

Starting in February, rumblings of a scary, flu-like virus began to circulate. By the first week of March, things in the U.S. began to 'shut down' in attempts to curb the spread. On Thursday, March 12, Governor Mike DeWine announced that all Ohio school would be on 'extended Spring Break' for the next two weeks. What followed was a cancelled 'in person' school year. And so we began the 2020 COVID Quarantine at home.

This is the first week of  "home school." As you can see, Elys made things...challenging.
And no one was very amused.

It did get "better"...a little...

On the up side, we had more time to get to know new spots in our MetroParks

Weekly picnics became our thing

Dressed in our Tribe gear for what would have been Opening Day (cancelled)

Anna became a really good bartender

Owen literally was climbing the walls.

Owen and Elys got creative with "toys"

Went to a local park and called it a 'Field Trip'
(but couldn't play on the playground, all closed)

Took more bike rides

and walks...

Mom started baking.

Owen was muddy through the month of April

Elys learned to say Grace at meals...

And built forts in closets with her brother

Elys's hair got long enough for pigtails

Easter was also a bit "different".  We colored Easter eggs.

Elys is mad that no one will let her hold an egg or play in food coloring.

The Easter bunny drove around our neighborhood hanging off of the back of a box truck.

Luckily, he was not injured and did bring Easter baskets!

New water table, which will certainly be used indoors for a while.

The big kids had to go on a hunt to find their Easter prize from BopBop

You know it's a pandemic if GiGi and BopBop bought a video game system

I did more baking...

Zooming with our Cousins

Driveway Easter with Uncle Dan, Aunt Julie, and Lainey

Watching a concert during dinner

We got pretty good at playing the piano - and practiced without Mom asking

Izzie was thrilled to have everyone home all the time.

On Monday, April 20, Governor DeWine calls school for the year. Well, we have to finish, but everything will be online and at home. This is Owen doing one of his Zoom class sessions

The weather finally started to turn, so we got some dirt.

Everything is still closed so we started at-home hair cuts!

Not too bad! And no scissor injuries!

Anna earned and paid for a pair of rollerblades recently, and we had our first trip to an Urgent Care as a result! She took a hard fall down a hill while we were at Catawba and split her chin open.

She was extremely brave!

9 stitches for our girl

Celebrating Elizabeth's birthday social distance style!

Owen teaching Elys the magic of a tablet game

Oh, and we got snow on May 9

Anna made us breakfast for our anniversary

This part is just called, Elys continues to keep us on our toes...

Oh, and Dad fractures his arm, requiring surgery

Finally, it is summer!
We spend a fantastic Memorial Day weekend at the lake.

Owen jumps in the 50 degree water with the big boys.

Babies and boat rides

Thank goodness for Catawba!
Quarantine should be over soon...right?...
